About

Laszlo Jakusovszky was inspired by science fiction literature and art from an early age. He cut his teeth on classic works by authors like Verne, Van Vogt, and Clarke. But the big boost came (as it did for many of his generation) with Star Wars – it changed everything for so many and inspired him to pursue a career in imaginative realist illustration.

Laszlo ultimately obtained a degree in Fine Art in the pursuit. However, his other great love – reading – took center stage as he was drawn to a career in libraries. He never lost his love of imaginative realism, though – drawing and painting in his spare time.

After his successful library career, he felt the calling to take up brushes again… At first with acrylics, more recently with oils, he brings a clean approach to his paintings, employing fine details, crisp planes and bold colors.

Laszlo draws inspiration from classic SF illustrations (especially early pulp and paperback covers), the Old Masters, French painters of the Academician era (in particular Gerome and Bouguereau) and many contemporary imaginative realist artists (principally Michael Whelan, Donato Giancola, and Alex Ross.)

Laszlo is available for professional illustration and personal commissions.
